Our goal at Abaton Belize is to develop a unique treatment facility rooted in ancient, indigenous, and Western medical practices, focused on providing physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual healing. The diverse treatments will involve the elements, cycles and seasons, plants, animals, and dreams.
What makes Abaton Belize unique to all other modern healing centers is its central focus on the therapeutic power of dreams. Abaton means “dream chamber” and refers to the Ancient Greek Asklepian sanctuaries, where dream incubation would take place. From 600 BCE and for centuries after, peasants, kings, and people of all classes made pilgrimages to Abatons across the world. Those seeking healing came to sleep in the sanctuaries to receive a dream or vision that would either heal them directly or provide guidance as to how they might heal themselves. However, this tradition has largely disappeared in the modern era. Abaton Belize seeks to revive this way of healing while utilizing other ancient and contemporary treatment methods alongside it to create a holistic center like none other.
The land is 81 acres of beautiful scenery on the Coastal Highway in Stann Creek District, Belize. It is surrounded by citrus orchids and nestled within the Belizean jungle between the sea and the Mayan mountains. With thousands of trees and local plants on the property, visitors will be surrounded by countless natural medicines and an abundance of delicious local fruits and vegetables growing right outside their doors.
Our community consists of various physicians, psychologists, healing practitioners, and teachers, as well as many indigenous healers who still practice ancient healing traditions here in Belize. This diverse assortment of experts will offer invaluable guidance and support for our center.
Currently, we have a well that provides running water, a 3 bedroom cottage dedicated to honor the illustrious and magnificent Dr. Radmila Moacanin which will house the healers during their stay, a natural swimming pond, a water garden, and a large building space for yoga, cooking, dining, and other activities. We are also in the process of constructing a therapeutic center that will offer a range of treatments such as massages, physical therapy, and acupuncture, as well as a worker’s house which will provide a residence for the many employees who will help Abaton Belize operate. Our main project at the moment is the construction of the Maya Village which will serve as the primary lodging area for our visitors. The actual Abaton dream sanctuary is in the design phase and will be the final element added to the healing center.
